Southampton Youth Orchestra will be performing in concert at Thornden Hall.!
Southampton Youth Orchestra continue their 60th Anniversary Season with a bold and exciting programme at Thornden Hall. Brahms’ Academic Festival Overture is a reliable crowd-pleaser, and sets the stage perfectly for Sibelius’ Symphony No.5 – a masterclass of drama, suspense and unapologetic celebration.
In the first half, we will be treated to a performance of Tchaikovsky’s timeless Piano Concerto No.1 with internationally acclaimed Duncan Honeybourne at the piano. Duncan teaches at University of Southampton and the Junior Royal Academy of Music and is in demand as a concerto soloist, accompanist and recitalist. He has been lauded by The Times, Gramophone Magazine and BBC Music Magazine, and regularly has recordings broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and radio stations across the world. This is Duncan’s second collaboration with Southampton Youth Orchestra, and it is our pleasure to welcome him back.
Southampton Youth Orchestra have gone from strength to strength over the last few years, with performances including Shostakovich’s 5th Symphony, Rimsky-Korsakoff’s Scheherazade and Tolga Kashif's Queen Symphony – and we can’t wait to be back at Thornden Hall with another glittering programme.
